Pondering The Lessons
Ties of blood are no guarantee of saving grace
Some covenant privileges are merely external
A day of testing is scheduled for each individual

“Many” will be in for a rude awakening (Matt. 7:22)

07/13 – Remember Her Progress
She was aroused by the angelic warning
She believed enough to respond
She experienced a true “spiritual touch”
She escaped the doomed city of sin
She ran with the godly for some time
She was almost saved, but not quite (?)

07/20 – Remember Her Apostasy
What is Apostasy?
Hebrews 6:1-9 offers something of a spiritual diagnosis:
1. Lot’s wife experienced true blessings from God
2. She, nevertheless, failed to progress and fell away
What about Election?
1 John 2:19 offers some helpful distinctions (italicized):
“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”
What about Assurance?
Hebrews 6 invites us to be confident of better (i.e., salvific) things (vs. 9), but only if we are making steady progress unto perfection (vv. 1-3).
07/27 – Remember Her Perdition
The Nature of Her Judgement
Salt is a symbol of permanent desolation (Deut. 29:23, Judges 9:45, Jeremiah 17:6).
Pillars were public reminders of covenant realities (Joshua 24:26, Judges 9:6, 2 Samuel 18:18).
The Fairness of Her Judgement
She rejected God’s well-meant offer of escape.
Verses 26-28 use different verbs for “look” and the first may connote some “regard.”
“Turning back” is no light matter (Zeph. 1:1-6; Luke 9:62, 17:31; Acts 7:39, Hebrews 10:39).
It is also possible that her mistake was looking upon God during a divine visitation (Exodus 12:22, 33:20).
The Purpose of Her Judgement
To reveal God’s holy righteousness
To warn those who love the world
To deepen humble gratitude in believers
