As a pro-life voter, I have occasionally been castigated for being a “Single Issue Voter”. I don’t mind being called names, but the inconsistency of my critics deserves some scrutiny.
Everyone is a single issue voter because people vote for what they want most. Period.
I want to see obedience to God’s Law increased in our commonwealth. That chief desire always determines which candidates I endorse.
The core desire of most others seems to be wealth. Whether it is strengthening their labor union, adjusting taxation, or securing government benefits, their “single issue” stands revealed: Money.
Abortion is also an inescapably financial issue. Search [CNTRL+F] for the word “economic” in any government study on abortion. The results may surprise you.
My theory is not new and, no, I am not oversimplifying matters. Jesus himself exposed the same dynamic:
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)
So which will it be on November 6th? God or mammon? Life or filthy lucre? What is your single issue?
