Sermons for Sojourning Saints

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Most people think of “Pilgrims” as that group of early American settlers who traveled across the Atlantic four centuries ago in pursuit of religious liberty.

Peter had a different kind of pilgrim in mind when he wrote his first epistle: God’s saints who have been called to sojourn through this world.

A Song for Sojourners

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Do you feel at home in this world?

Far too many Christians do… and they really need to consider how the saints of old felt while living their lives in such a strange land.

Pastor McShaffrey preached this sermon in preparation for our next sermon series on First Peter and we invite you to join us for worship over the next several weeks as we continue on this theme.

A Song for Sojourners (Psalm 137)

An Old Song for a New Year

Monday, January 11th, 2010

“O Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations….”

This sermon was preached in preparation for the new year by Pastor McShaffrey.

An Old Song for a New Year (Psalm 90)

A New Song for a New Year

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

This song was written by Elder Baldridge as a hymn of application for the sermon he will be delivering this coming Lord’s Day.

Please familiarize yourself with it in advance; that we might sing Christ’s worthy praise in a skillful manner (Psalm 33:3).

The Mothers of Jesus

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

When we think of the mother of Jesus, we usually think first of the blessed virgin Mary (and this is completely appropriate and biblical).

However, and if I were to ask you to think about Jesus’ grandmothers, my suspicion is that you might start thinking about similarly sanctified women who had halos over their heads and harps in their hands.

That is why the genealogy (i.e., family tree) of Jesus is so important; for it gives us a far more realistic record of the kind of women God chose to bring forth the Messiah.

Tamar – Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:1-3 and Genesis 38)

Rahab – Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:1-5 and Joshua 2)

Ruth – Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:1-6a and the Book of Ruth)

Bathsheba – Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:1-6 and 2 Samuel 11-12)

Mary – Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:16 and Luke 1-4)
